The Minister of the Interior

Papers, Please: A Dystopian Document Thriller (Lucas Pope, 2013)

The Honourable Boris Ivanovich,

Minister of the Interior,

Has, in the company of ladies,

Been known to cause hysteria.

He is terribly handsome

And  one does feel inferior

When one is seated next to

the Minister of the Interior.

M. Ivanovich is at the helm

And we can all attest

That, when it comes to statecraft,

He is the very best.

No, do not challenge him to debate

For those who dare protest

Either choose to change their minds

Or are quickly laid to rest.

The Minister is a hero

who fought bravely in the war.

He has some very handsome scars

And  he has medals galore

But, if you know what’s good for you,

You won’t ask what they’re for.

M. Ivanovich is a family man

Who, despite his busy life,

Finds time for his children and his mistress

And his second wife

(The first one met an unfortunate end

That involved a butter knife).

The Honourable Boris Ivanovich,

Minister of the Interior,

Is a consummate politician

Whose intellect is superior

To that of his many underlings

Who cannot know the many things

That are known to Boris Ivanovich

The Minister of the Interior.
